Continuous Water Quality Monitoring in the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve

The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR) has been monitoring water quality in the estuary for over 30 years. Currently, there are 7 stations collecting high-frequency data on temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and pH in the various habitats that occur within the estuary. This data is part of a larger, nationwide program shared by all Research Reserves known as the System-wide Monitoring Program (SWMP). The goal of this research is to identify short-term variability and long-term changes in the waters of the nation’s most important estuaries. This presentation will cover the history of the program, the equipment and methods used, the data collected, and how users can access, view, and download the Reserve’s publicly available data.
